 How to Renew the TRUSTe Program

STEP 1. Do the paperwork

First, you need to read our license agreement. We require two signed copies. In signing, you agree to follow the established privacy principles outlined by TRUSTe and comply with our oversight and resolution process. You may print an html version of the TRUSTe license agreement or download a copy in Microsoft Word. A very important element of the license agreement is the Self Assessment form.

The self assessment document asks for a detailed account of your internal privacy and security practices. After completing the license agreement, you will then use our automated billing process to generate an invoice for your annual license fee. TRUSTe determines your annual fee based on your company's total annual revenue. (NOTE: The annual license fee covers TRUSTe's administrative costs for the approval process, as well as TRUSTe's ongoing oversight, monitoring, and alternative dispute resolution mechanism.)

$25,000 Corporate and $75,000 Enterprise rates are for companies with multiple brands that all share a common privacy policy and adhere to common information collection practices, and are covered under one license agreement.

In summary, send the following materials to us:

  • Two signed copies of the license agreement
  • Completed Self Assessment form
  • Your invoice
  • Payment of your annual license fee made out to "TRUSTe"
  • A copy of your privacy statement (this can be sent with the completed Self Assessment form)

STEP 2. Our Application Processing department will contact you.

Once we process your application, TRUSTe will sign both copies of the license agreements and return one for your records.The TRUSTe Application Pprocessing department will contact you within 10 –15 business days to confirm we have received your application. At this time, we will verify receipt of all material or indicate what documents are still required. It is important to understand, that no further processing of an application will take place until all required documents have been received. Once we have received all portions of your completedprocess your application, TRUSTe will sign both copies of the license agreements and return one for your records. We'll then assign you an account executive manager within 45-60 days who will conduct the certification and review process. The account executive will contact you to confirm we have received your application. Once TRUSTe has processed your application, receives your privacy statement, and obtains a completed self assessment form, your account executive manager will contact you to set up a phone conference to review your site and privacy statement. For Web sites that have not launched yet, please keep in mind that you will need to provide TRUSTe access to the site for us to conduct our review and certification process.

It is important to note that you may NOT post the TRUSTe trustmark on your site until you receive final approval from your account manager. Web sites that post the trustmark before obtaining final approval from TRUSTe may be disqualified from participating in the TRUSTe program.
