 Children's Privacy Seal Program

The TRUSTe Children's Privacy Seal Program offers companies a solution for addressing children's privacy issues. The Children's Privacy Seal Program is compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and as such has been approved by the FTC as an authorized COPPA safe harbor.

Parents and children who visit sites that post the Children's Seal will know that the site has complied with TRUSTe's Children's Program, that TRUSTe is providing ongoing review to ensure the site is not violating its privacy statement, and that a formal complaint and resolution process exists if consumers perceive that the site may not be in compliance with the TRUSTe program.

Sites wishing to be licensed by TRUSTe must post the Children's Seal shown above and adhere to the provisions of the standard TRUSTe program and TRUSTe Children's Program requirements when:

  • The site is directed at children under the age of 13

  • The site contains a section directed at children under the age of 13

  • The site knowingly collects or maintains personal information from children under the age of 13

TRUSTe’s Children’s Privacy Program is intended to promote fair information practices with regard to the collection of Personal Information at Web sites in order to promote the Internet as a trustworthy environment for children. As such, TRUSTe’s Children’s Program requirements will be modified, as necessary, to meet the requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
