 Privacy Seal Program

Making the Internet a community that consumers trust and believe in requires leadership. In joining the TRUSTe online seal program, you'll be leading the way, making the Internet a safe, comfortable forum for consumers to exchange accurate information and conduct transactions--and for Web sites to thrive and flourish. Our goal is to provide:

  • Online consumers with control over their personal information.
  • Web publishers with a standardized, cost-effective solution for both satisfying the business model of their site and addressing consumers' anxiety over sharing personal information online.
  • Government regulators with demonstrable evidence that the industry can successfully self-regulate.

TRUSTe offers a cost-effective, turnkey program that squarely addresses the privacy concerns of consumers, Web sites, and government officials. We also understand that privacy disclosure is subjective and no single privacy policy will work for everyone. The TRUSTe program enables you to develop privacy statements that reflect the information gathering and dissemination practices of your site.

A cornerstone of our program is the TRUSTe privacy seal, or "trustmark," an online branded seal that takes users directly to your privacy statement. The trustmark is awarded only to sites that adhere to our established privacy principles of disclosure, choice, access and security. Furthermore, Web sites that display the TRUSTe privacy seal agree to comply with ongoing TRUSTe oversight and our alternative dispute resolution process.

For a comprehensive overview of the principles, oversight, and resolution requirements that make up the TRUSTe program, please see the following sections.

Program Principles. The privacy practices and procedures that will keep your Web site in step with fair information practices.

TRUSTe Oversight. The measures we take to ensure that licensed Web sites adhere to posted privacy policies.

Resolution Process. What we do to resolve privacy concerns or complaints raised by consumers or TRUSTe. Back to Top
